Being police chief of GPPS is said to offer “a truly unique opportunity” to lead a modern, integrated public safety agency.
The city says the GPPS chief will focus on local oversight, transparency and recruitment.
Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a press release; “With the opportunities presented by the Grande Prairie Police Service and the unique prospects of building a modern and integrated police service, the city eagerly anticipates the establishment of the Grande Prairie Police Commission and the key role they will play in selecting the right candidate to lead GPPS.”
The Chief of Police will work closely with:
- City of Grande Prairie,
- Royal Canadian Mounted Police,
- Provincial and federal governments,
- community groups,
- Other police services in Alberta and across Canada.
The new chief will be expected to lead a team of over 200 staff in multiple roles, both sworn and civilian, and be responsible for leading the service in public safety, public accountability, community affairs and media management.
The application deadline is 31 May 2023, but recruitment will remain open until a suitable candidate is employed.
