Two suspected Lagos-based robbers have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command after they unleashed terror on residents of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The robbery suspects are said to have terrorized the people of Ijebu-Ode and its environs in recent times.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Oyeyemi explained that the suspects, Muyiwa Adebola and Lukman Ogunmuyiwa, were arrested following a distress call received at the Igbeba Division Headquarters, Ijebu Ode on March 26, 2023.
He added that nemesis caught up with them when a six-man gang invaded a new location in Imoru-Ijebu and held people in the area hostage.
He said: “The robbers robbed residents of their belongings including laptops, 32 different phones and a GLK Mercedes Benz car with number plate KRD 570 HM at gunpoint.
“One Ayoola Taiwo was also shot and wounded in his right knee by the robbers.
“Following the report, the DPO Igbeba Division, CSP Musiliu Doga, led his men to the scene but the robbers fled when they saw the policemen.
“They were chased and one of them, Muyiwa Adebola, was arrested in Olisa area of Ijebu-Ode and one of the stolen phones was recovered from him.”
The PPRO added that it was the suspect who led operatives to the Mushin area of Lagos where the other suspect was arrested.
“On interrogation, Muyiwa Adebola informed the police that the gang members were based in Lagos State and he subsequently led detectives to the Mushin area of Lagos where the second suspect, Lukman Ogunmuyiwa, who also confessed his involvement in the robbery, was apprehended.
“So far the following items – three HP laptops and three phones belonging to the victims have been recovered from them,” he said.
The PPRO, however, said the suspects have been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department on the orders of the outgoing Commissioner of Police, now Assistant Superintendent of Police, Frank Mba, for further investigation.
