It’s not a brand favorite in the Australian smartphone world, but this new phone really impresses, says Elly Awesome.
Oppo has positioned itself “in that flagship space” against Samsung with its new Find N2 compact flip phone, says Tech Guide Editor Stephen Fenech. “It really has a lot of great features – some even the Samsung phone doesn’t have, including the ability to fold completely flat,” Mr Fenech told Sky News Australia. “A lot of respect to Oppo in the space for this device.”
OPPO is about to release an incredible new Android flip phone in the Australian market called the OPPO Find N2 Flip.
Boasting a long-lasting battery, large external display and pocketable form factor, it will compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip4.
Unlike many premium smartphone brands that skimp on providing a charger with their devices, OPPO has gone above and beyond what comes in the box. There’s a 44W SUPERVOOC™ fast charger, USB-C charging cable, document launch with a SIM eject tool, and even a clear two-piece phone case. The phone itself has a really unique matte textured shell that seems completely fingerprint resistant, which I love and is rare for smartphones these days. And it still has an incredibly premium look and feel with a very smooth and well made hinge mechanism.
Immediately, this phone has a wow factor. What sets it apart from others is definitely its large 3.26-inch cover screen that sits on the outside of the phone when closed, clamshell-style.
It’s great for checking your notifications, quickly setting a timer or alarm, and checking the weather. I hope more apps come to the home screen as it even feels big enough to scroll on social media.
When the phone is opened for use as a regular smartphone, it reveals a bright 6.8-inch main display with up to 120Hz refresh rate. The screen also lacks a sharp crease at its folding center that most other foldable phones have.
It’s barely noticeable compared to the other flip phones I’ve tried, leaving only the most minimal, shallow indentation on the screen.
Using the phone is great because you can have it folded at all kinds of angles, such as a 90-degree angle so it can even sit on your desk, which is great for video calls, taking pictures or recording a video. More excitingly, you can use both the inner screen and the outer cover screen at the same time to have two viewfinders while using the cameras.
This also allows you to take advantage of the higher quality 50MP main camera on the ‘outside’ of the phone and use it as your selfie camera. Although the phone also has a rather impressive 32MP selfie camera on the inside and another camera on the back – an 8MP ultra-wide lens.
The image quality is quite impressive and the 50MP rear camera is capable of producing bright, evenly balanced, sharp and colorful images. Portrait mode works quite well, even around my wavy hair, and there are built-in beauty filters if that’s your scene.
The phone captures fairly stable, high-quality videos from the 50MP main camera, although it can get grainy in low light.
The 32MP selfie camera was also decent, but tended to overexpose sometimes when the lighting was unbalanced, especially if you have a moving subject in the frame.
This flip phone has one of the best batteries in its niche. It has a 4300mAh battery that can last all day, even when watching hours of videos or scrolling social media.
And its included 44W charger can charge the phone to about 50 percent battery in about 23 minutes.

Should you buy it?
After an early hands-on with this phone, I’m really impressed so far. It’s a great flip phone, and definitely a device to consider if you want a more pocket-friendly smartphone.
The OPPO Find N2 Flip can be pre-ordered now at JB Hi-Fi or Harvey Norman for $1499, for a launch date of March 16. And it comes in two fantastic colors – Moonlit Purple or Astral Black.
